  Family of late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha (rtd) has cautioned former Military President Gen. Ibrahim Babangida against tarnishing the image of the former military leader. The Korwai tribe from (Indonesia) wasn’t discovered by the world until 1970.

The Korowai tribe, actually from southeastern Papua in Indonesia, was indeed isolated from the rest of the world until the late 1970s. They were first contacted by anthropologists in 1974, led by Peter Van Arsdale, Robert Mitton, and Mark Grundhoefer. Before this encounter, the Korowai had minimal contact with outsiders and maintained their traditio nal way of life, including living in treehouses and practicing shifting cultivation. Their isolation helped preserve their unique culture and beliefs, which are still not fully understood by the Western world. Interestingly, the Korowai's isolation was also influenced by their spiritual beliefs, which discouraged them from interacting with outsiders. They believed that pale-skinned ghost demons, the "laloe," would bring destruction to their land if they made contact.
