Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), on Tuesday gained an unusual support as the main agitating militant group in the Niger Delta, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), pledged its total support for the former military ruler. MEND, in a lengthy press statement circulated through email by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, anchored its decision on the need to deliver Nigeria, especially the Niger Delta region, from the crunching effects of corruption. Photos: Suspected suicide bomber burnt alive by mob in Gombe State, The male suicide bomber suspect who was allegedly dressed with a bomb hidden under his cloth was apprehended and burnt alive some few minutes after 1pm this afternoon at the Gombe Line Park in Gombe state. IN a remarkable style, the government of the Republic of South Africa, yesterday, took back home 66 embalmed bodies of victims of the September 12 Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, building collapse. The identified bodies, which had been under the care of the Lagos State government at the mortuaries of the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, and Isolo General Hospital, Isolo, were part of the 80 victims from Nigeria and neighbouring countries who lost their lives in the incident that is undergoing a coroner’s inquest. As early as 4am, an entourage of South African government officials, medical and health workers, military and plain clothes security personnel, among others, began takingpossession of the bodies at the Mainland Hospital morgue and Isolo General Hospital, from a special medical team set up by the Lagos government. The speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal, will soon declare his intention to join the Sokoto State governorship race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Though some members of the House had purchased the APC presidential nomination forms for Tambuwal, urging him to go for the highest office in the land, a chieftain of the Sokoto APC confided in LEADERSHIP last night that the stakeholders in the state preferred that the speaker contest the state’s governorship. The party stalwart, who sought anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter, disclosed that necessary plans had been put in place to enable Tambuwal declare for the Sokoto State governorship seat on the platform of the APC.
