IN a remarkable style, the government of the Republic of South Africa, yesterday, took back home 66 embalmed bodies of victims of the September 12 Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, building collapse. The identified bodies, which had been under the care of the Lagos State government at the mortuaries of the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, and Isolo General Hospital, Isolo, were part of the 80 victims from Nigeria and neighbouring countries who lost their lives in the incident that is undergoing a coroner’s inquest. Boko Haram fighters are set for more lethal attacks after carting away on Tuesday eight truck loads of dynamites from a cement factory near Gombe, the Gombe State capital. The sect’s fighters also robbed a bank on Tuesday after attacking Nafada where they blew up a police station and the local secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Nafada is 150 kilometres from Gombe. Many people were killed by the attackers who rode into the town on more than 50 motorcycles. A graduate of Lead City University, Ibadan, who passed out with 1st-class honors has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment after pleading guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences. Olakunle Akanni was sentenced yesterday Nov. 4th at the Ikeja High Court in Lagos for defrauding a 77 year-old American woman, Diana Huizenga, of over 12,000 dollars through an internet love scam. One of his accomplices, Adesina Akinsola, 30, was also given a similar sentence by the judge but adjourned the sentencing of their co- accused, 30-year-old Dele Oshuntogun, till Nov. 17. There are reports that the convicts entered a plea bargain with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Lawal-Akapo consequently sentenced them to one year imprisonment on each of the counts. Militant Islamist sect, Boko Haram , has renamed Mubi as ‘ Madinatul Islam,” meaning the city of Islam.The action is further confirmation that the sect was in total control of the town which it recaptured last week after troops stationed there withdrew.
